두 수치는 비슷해 보이지만 의미가 다릅니다. 무승부가 있는 상황과 콜 결정을 예로 들어 정확히 구분해보겠습니다.

승률이란?

승률은 남은 카드가 모두 공개됐을 때 내 핸드가 상대 핸드를 이기고 팟을 단독으로 가져갈 확률입니다.

승률 단독 승리 횟수 ÷ 전체 경우의 수

무승부는 단독 승리가 아니므로 일반적으로 승률과 별도로 표시합니다.

에퀴티란?

에퀴티는 현재 상황에서 내가 받을 것으로 기대되는 팟의 지분입니다. 승리뿐 아니라 무승부로 나눠 받는 몫도 포함합니다.

헤즈업 에퀴티 승률 + 무승부 확률 ÷ 2

3명 이상이 같은 핸드로 무승부라면 해당 팟을 나누는 인원수에 맞춰 지분을 계산합니다.

예시 1: 승률과 에퀴티가 달라지는 경우

승리45%

무승부10%

에퀴티50%

헤즈업에서 무승부 팟은 절반씩 나눕니다. 따라서 45% + 10% ÷ 2 = 50%가 됩니다. 승률은 45%지만 팟에서 기대할 수 있는 지분은 50%입니다.

팟오즈와 비교하는 이유

콜이 수익적인지 판단할 때는 에퀴티를 팟오즈가 요구하는 최소 에퀴티와 비교합니다.

예시 2: 50을 콜할지 판단

상대 베팅 후 현재 팟: 150
내가 콜할 금액: 50
콜 후 최종 팟: 200

50 ÷ 200 = 25%이므로, 추가 베팅이 없고 다른 조건을 무시한다면 약 25% 이상의 에퀴티가 필요합니다.

자주 하는 오해

50%를 넘어야 콜할 수 있다?아닙니다. 필요한 기준은 50%가 아니라 현재 팟오즈가 요구하는 최소 에퀴티입니다.

같은 카드면 에퀴티도 항상 같다?상대 범위, 보드, 남은 인원과 스트리트가 바뀌면 에퀴티도 달라집니다.

에퀴티가 높으면 반드시 이긴다?에퀴티는 장기적인 기대 지분입니다. 한 번의 실제 결과를 보장하지 않습니다.

멀티웨이에서도 무승부의 절반을 더한다?아닙니다. 무승부에 참여한 인원수에 따라 나눠 받는 지분이 달라집니다.

에퀴티 실현률도 다릅니다

계산상 에퀴티가 있어도 포지션이 나쁘거나 이후 베팅을 견디기 어려우면 그 지분을 실제로 모두 실현하지 못할 수 있습니다. 올인 상황이 아니라면 향후 액션도 함께 고려해야 합니다.

범위를 기준으로 생각하기

실전에서는 상대의 정확한 두 장을 알 수 없습니다. 따라서 특정 핸드 한 개가 아니라 상대가 가질 수 있는 전체 범위를 설정하고 내 에퀴티를 비교하는 것이 더 현실적입니다.

What is win rate?

Win rate is the probability that your hand finishes ahead and wins the pot outright after all remaining cards are dealt.

Win rateOutright wins ÷ all outcomes

Ties are normally shown separately because they are not outright wins.

What is equity?

Equity is your expected share of the pot. It includes both outright wins and the portion you receive when the pot is split.

Heads-up equityWin % + Tie % ÷ 2

In multiway ties, divide the tied portion according to the number of players sharing the pot.

Example 1: When the numbers differ

In a heads-up tie, each player receives half the pot. Therefore, 45% + 10% ÷ 2 = 50%. The hand wins outright 45% of the time but owns 50% of the expected pot.

Why compare equity with pot odds?

To assess a call, compare your equity with the minimum equity required by the pot odds.

Example 2: Calling 50

Pot after the opponent's bet: 150
Amount to call: 50
Final pot after calling: 200

50 ÷ 200 = 25%, so the call needs about 25% equity when future betting and other factors are ignored.

Common mistakes

Do calls need over 50%?No. The relevant threshold is the minimum equity required by the current pot odds.

Does the same hand always have the same equity?No. Equity changes with the opponent's range, board, number of players, and street.

Does high equity guarantee a win?No. Equity is a long-run expected share, not a promise about one result.

Always add half of the tie rate?Only in heads-up pots. Multiway split shares depend on how many players tie.

Equity realization matters

Outside all-in situations, you may not realize all of your raw equity when out of position or unable to continue against later bets. Future action still matters.

Think in ranges

You rarely know an opponent's exact two cards. A realistic analysis compares your hand against the full range of hands the opponent may hold.

Set the opponent's hand or an assumed range that matches the situation.
When both win rate and equity are shown, check whether split-pot share explains the difference.
For calls, compare equity with the required equity from pot odds.

Note: Results depend on the cards and ranges entered. A calculation can be mathematically correct but strategically misleading when the assumed range is unrealistic.
